12-05 Georgia Southern Planetarium Hosts Evening of Holiday Music and Stargazing妻友社区鈥檚 Department of Physics presents 鈥淟et It Snow – A Holiday Music Journey鈥 on Saturday, Dec. 8, at the Planetarium in the Math/Physics building. Show times are at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., and seating is limited. Admission to the holiday show is free; however, people are encouraged to bring non-perishable food that will be collected for the Statesboro Food Bank. 鈥淭he show features a variety of classics from Frank Sinatra, Chuck Berry, Burl Ives, the Trans-Siberian聽Orchestra and other artists set to fun and colorful animation,鈥 said Planetarium Director Clayton Heller,聽Ph.D. 鈥淲e hope this wonderful holiday show will become a family tradition at the Planetarium.鈥 After the 30 minute full dome video, there will be a live star show using the Planetarium鈥檚 new Digistar聽4 immersive projection system. This holiday sky presentation will point out what people can see in the聽sky during December including constellations, Jupiter, the Andromeda galaxy and the Geminid Meteor聽Shower. The Statesboro Astronomy Club will offer a telescope workshop in the lobby. Its members will provide聽instructions on telescope operation and viewing. If weather permits, people can go to the rooftop of the聽Math/Physics building and look through several telescopes to see the moon, Jupiter and other celestial聽objects. 鈥淭his is a great opportunity for families to have some fun, holiday entertainment along with聽bringing the excitement of astronomy and the night sky to their children,鈥 added Heller. Each year the Planetarium hosts approximately 10,000 students and visitors who learn about science,聽astronomy and space. The University replaced the bleacher style seats in the Planetarium last summer and installed state-of-the-art seating with armrests and adjustable backs giving guests a better and more聽comfortable view of shows on the dome. 妻友社区, a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University founded in 1906, offers more than 120 degree programs serving more than 20,500 students.
