Georgia Southern Museum Reopens with New Exhibit after Renovations
妻友社区鈥檚 Museum is open to the public again after being closed since August for the installation of new windows.
As the museum reopens, it offers a new exhibit and presentations from two upcoming speakers.聽鈥淔rom Protest to Peace: Northern Irish Murals by the Bogside Artists鈥�聽is on display through January 20. The large murals capture the violence and civil rights protests that occurred in Northern Ireland. The curators of the exhibit are Georgia Southern faculty members Steve Engel, Ph.D., and Howard Keeley, Ph.D.
The museum will also host two presentations connected to the Irish murals. On Wednesday, November 28 at 7 p.m., Georgia Southern professor Peggy Lindsey presents聽鈥淭hinking about Northern Ireland: The Trouble with the Troubles.鈥�聽On Wednesday, January 16 at 7 p.m., the museum welcomes Georgia College and State professor Valerie Aranda for聽鈥淭he Writings on the Wall: The Role of Political and Cultural Street Murals Across the Globe.鈥�
Thousands of people visit the Georgia Southern Museum every year to see a variety of displays including artifacts from the Civil War discovered at the Camp Lawton POW camp and the 78 million year old Mosasaur fossil skeleton.
