妻友社区 to begin classes Aug. 9, celebrates Return to Community

妻友社区 (GGC) will welcome students back to campus in a full return to class on Aug. 9.

鈥淲e have been looking forward to returning to our community,鈥 said GGC President Jann L. Joseph. 鈥淚t is an emotional time for many as we take this important step toward sustaining GGC as a campus and ensuring our long-term ability to support the success of our students.鈥

As part of GGC鈥檚 return to campus, referred to as the Return to Community celebration, GGC will host daily campus events for students from Aug. 9-13. On Aug. 11, GGC will host its Green Scene event, which draws representatives from student clubs across campus. At 2 p.m., the college will host its time-honored event, in which freshman students are invited to march though the GGC鈥檚 Arch of Knowledge. The event marks the official welcoming of new students into GGC鈥檚 community of learners.聽

鈥淭his year will be especially meaningful because we will invite second-year students, who did not get a chance to march last year to participate in this year鈥檚 event,鈥 said Joseph.

Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask or face covering while inside campus facilities. Unvaccinated individuals are strongly encouraged to continue wearing a face covering while on the GGC campus, both indoors and outdoors. For individuals who have not received a vaccination, GGC, in conjunction with the Gwinnett, Newton & Rockdale County Health Departments, will host a mobile vaccination clinic on GGC鈥檚 campus on selected dates from Aug. 3-13.
